Jamaica’s Hoodcelebrityy brings Island Vibes to the World

Welcome to World Of Hip Hop! Where we shine a light on some of the amazing Hip Hop talent from around the globe with the help of @neutronenkind and @vandigital.

The origins of Hip Hop stem from Jamaica and Jamaican music has always played a big role in the culture with not just the Emcee’s “toasting” on the mic, but also with the dance, rhythms and fashion. So this week on World Of Hip Hop we are going to swing in a slightly different, and not so Boom Bap, direction with a feature on Jamaica’s current Dancehall Hip Hop Queen Hoodcelebrityy.

Now I know Hoodcelebrityy is more Reggae than she is Hip Hop but we’re going to make an exception this week. Not just because she’s an exceptional talent, is beautiful and just dropped a very “current” sounding EP – Inna Real Life. Below you can watch the video for the title single -“Inna Real Life” and get a feel for her vibes if you haven’t checked her out yet.

Born Tina Pinnock, Hoodcelebrityy was born and raised in Jamaica, but like many from the Caribbean Island, moved to The Bronx, New York as a teenager. She always knew she wanted to make music and perform, but when she relocated she found herself hustling with an eye for style, keeping people looking fresh and pretty much being able to sell anything. I mean, just look at her style!

Using Instagram Hoodcelebrityy would make short “freestyle” videos and it didn’t take long before they started to go viral and people started to pay more attention to her.

With the help of Cardi B, her exposure shot up and she released her first video “Wine Pon It” in 2015 and never looked back.

I especially like this video for “Wine Pon It” as it depicts those underground Dancehall parties I used to go to back in the day in Toronto (which by the way has a massive reggae/dancehall scene). Anyway, it’s a short entry this week so don’t get mad at us, just enjoy the music!

Thanks again for reading/watching and we hope you’ve enjoyed this edition of #worldofhiphop with me @vandigital.
