Welcome to World Of Hip Hop! Where we shine a light on some of the amazing Hip Hop talent from around the globe with the help of @neutronenkind and @vandigital.
Now I know there are other Emcee’s in New Zealand who rightfully could have been showcased here this week on #worldofhiphop and I might catch some flack for the negative elements in this post, but on my search of Kiwi Hip Hop I was brought to know the current situation with the rapper who put NZ on the map. Introducing Scribe.
I really wanted to see what this dope Kiwi emcee has been up to since I discovered him back in the early 2000’s and I was surprised to learn that he’s awaiting sentencing on drug charges. I was shocked. See, Scribe was one of those talents that you just knew would break globally and as he put NZ on his back he was on the verge of making it happen. Back in 2003 he released his first album with DJ P-Money entitled The Crusader and within a few days the album Platinum and his single “Stand Up” was awarded “Single of the Year” in 2004.
In 2011 Scribe had fallen victim to the triple threat of vices as Alcohol, Drugs and Gambling shipwrecked his career just as it was taking off. Fast forward to just over a month ago in August where the 39 year old Christchurch native allegedly breach bail on a drug possession charge. It’s not certain what will happen to one the illest emcees to have come out of NZ, but it’s sad to see his fall from grace and the damages that drugs and alcohol can cause in our world. Mugshot below.
Here’s a Remix joint featuring some other NZ emcees (I could have easily done this post about) – Savage & David Dallas – It’s too bad Scribe got caught up in the ills of society and wasn’t able to continue putting out music, but his legacy (despite being tarnished) will live on in New Zealand Hip Hop History!
Thanks again for reading/watching and we hope you’ve enjoyed this edition of #worldofhiphop with me @vandigital.
